There is a great abundance of literature on b-learning. Few, however, have the depth and practicality of Garrison & Vaughan. Technology and higher education have only focus on matters of access, but not for actual teaching excellence. Their model of b-learning is articulated through a Community of Inquiry (CoI), which is based on Constructivist approach for higher education. The book gives a well structured model (with guidelines, samples, etc.) which can be applied to almost any course. The limitations of the model are also explained. I would recommend this book to anyone trying to introduce technology to a higher learning scenario.

This book is fantastic. I work in the curriculum office of a large urban school district where we are navigating the 1:1 shift in our schools. The communities of inquiry and collaborative environments that are described by these authors are extremely valuable cornerstones of our work. Many thanks to my colleague for recommending it to me.
