About the Author
George Jenkins, Sampson Davis, and Rameck Hunt grew up together in Newark and graduated from Seton Hall University. Davis and Hunt received their medical degrees from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and Jenkins received his dentistry degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry. The three doctors are the recipients of the Essence Lifetime Achievement Award. All three continue to live in Newark.

If I could give this more stars, I would. I teach 7th and 8th grade Reading in a very high poverty area. Ninety percent of our students are on free lunch.With that being said, my students don't really care to read. When I do get them to read the class novel, it is like pulling teeth.We decided to add this book to our nonfiction class novel set. We are only on the fifth chapter, but I have never had a class so quiet and interested in a book. I have to stop my students from reading ahead. THIS IS GREAT. What is even more wonderful, is that it is a true story. I bought The Pact DVD to watch when we are done reading. I think they will like to see the doctors in real life.Anyways- I thank those men for taking the time to remember where they came from, and to inspire young people everywhere not to let their surroundings break them.A lot of my students connect with their stories and I think it is wonderful that they can see their own potential through this story.
EXCELLENT book! Bought it for my almost 11 year old son who HATES to read. He's now reading! He says the book is interesting. It is definitely keeping him engaged. Kudos to the three young doctors for creating a kid's version of their inspiring story.
This book grabbed the attention of a 14 year old boy that hates to read and kept it! Wow...I struggle with getting him to read and this book was perfect. It was so interesting that we both read it and would discuss it at dinner. My husband then ended up reading it as well because he felt left out (smile). Great purchase for leisure reading!
My son truly needed motivation and reading this book kicked started his determination to pass the 8th grade. Since, reading this book his overall academic scores went up. I saw him complete his homework assignments and study for exams in classes he was failing. I was always proud of my son and worked with him to take seriously his work, but seeing much better grades and his need to succeed i am very happy

Bought it for my teenage daughter for a school project and she loves the book, best of all it came 2 books for the price of one... the other book she gave it to her language arts teacher.
It's an easy read. My students really enjoy it.
This book is so amazing! I am a speech-language pathologist and I read this book with one of my middle-school at risk students who was in a gang. Every week it was amazing - the chapter we read happened to be what happened to him that week. At the end of the year he got out of the gang and he wrote me a 2 page letter telling me how much the book changed his life. I would highly recommend this book. And he told me to always read that book with kids in gangs - "because it really works".
