What a great read that accurately talks about the struggles introverts have on a daily basis. This means all the chapters really resonated with me on the annoyances and awkward moments I try to avoid every day. People, mostly. Parties, events, and holidays too. And the people involved in those. And everyone but my cat and girlfriend. Sometimes even my girlfriend. The cat's usually okay.Truly loved the chapter about introvert life design because it just rang true about how to structure my days and live on predictability. The entire concept of the social battery rang true as well.
The main takeaway from this book is to take care of your "social battery". This book is geared towards taking care of your energy expenditure, and is helpful for most people who consider themselves somewhat introverted.I would add that if you have higher social anxiety this book would likely be even more useful.
This is a great handbook. It should be available in a little purse-or-pocket-size edition for rescuing yourself on the go without having to memorize. But the tips are a manageable number and the advice is logical and systematic. Way better than figuring it out by suffering through years of cocktail and dinner parties, and work parties, ugh! Introverts, just read it. BTW, if you read this far, you're an introvert, in case you've been unsure.
Had I come across this volume in a bookstore, I might not have bought it: It is printed entirely in sans serif, like instructions on frozen food, there is not a single hyphen in the volume and so there are lines with ugly, gigantic white spaces, and widow control is absent so you find headings appearing as the last lines of pages and a line and a half of text all by itself and the end of one chapter. In other words, the printing is cheap and, well, ugly.However, I am very, very glad I bought it.It is full of useful for tactics for managing being an introvert. Not only is the advice useful, but so are the warnings too about how we introverts can be perceived especially when we're socially exhausted. Strongly recommended.
Patrick King hits the bullseye with "Introvert Survival Tactics". l have a teenage granddaughter who is a dead ringer for everything he's writing about, and I will use the book's message to reassure her that she's actually blessed rather than cursed for being born with a classic introvert's personality. I too am an introvert; I too tried for many years to turn myself into an extrovert; and I'm grateful to have finally realized that introversion is a gift rather than a curse. I was granted talents that extroverts don't possess and ended up being the one that extroverts seek out for help in solving life's problems (I am a guidance counselor). Thank you Mr. King, for your positive book. It's a winner.
Every point made was either lifted from other writings about introversion - or were personal opinions, with no evidence provided, presented as fact. In an attempt to fill the pages, the author says the same thing over and over (and over and over) using different words. The book provides useful tips like "try to be less self conscious" and to make verbalizations rather than using words.I'm guessing this has such high reviews because the author enlisted his social marketing network to rate the book favorably. This is the work of a marketer, more than a legitimate author (see how he promotes his consulting service in the description). Save a few bucks and search "introvert" online.
This was a great book and helped me realize that being an introvert is not a bad thing. It teaches you to embrace being an introvert but also doesn't let that hold you back from enjoying people and living life to the fullest. A MUST READ FOR ANY INTROVERT TRYING TO LEARN THEMSELVES
At first I wasn't being myself because I was acting like an extrovert because it seems as if extroverts always having so much fun. As a result trying to be like them, I became so fatigued. Now I feel comfortable being myself as an introvert after reading this book.
