This is an excellent source of information. I purchased the book because I am scheduled to have a Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) for Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS). As a non-medical person, a lot of the information is beyond me but there is also a lot of it that I do understand and made reading the book well worth the time (and cost of the book). I feel much of what I have learned should have been told to me by the doctors, nurses, and other staff at the center where I am to have the transplant. If I were a doctor I think I would provide a book like this or similar one to every patient that is going to undergo a HSCT for any reason.I have learned a lot from the book but I have also noticed there are mistakes in the book that a proofreader should have caught. For instance, Table 2.1, Pros and Cons of donor sources, lists "lower risk of complications" under disadvantages of autologous transplants. The same table also lists "lower risk of relapse" as a disadvantage of allogeneic transplants. Clearly these two occurrences are advantages and should have been listed under the advantage section. I have noticed other mistakes also.One other minor disadvantage of this book is the size of it. It is only 5" x 7" and the print is fairly small. I can overlook this, however.All in all I would say is an informative book well worth reading especially if you are contemplating a stem cell transplant.
This book appears to be a solid, basic overview of concepts in transplantation medicine. It doesn't provide deeper science coverage but is a good starting point when entering the field.

I was expecting a little more and a thicker book actually. It's not very long but does provide a great introduction and overview of SCT/BMT.
Thorough yet succinct.
I was faced with the prospect I might need a Bone Marrow transplant and wanted to learn about the process. I found the book very helpful.
