Okay so I have rather an addiction to plant based cook books - but this one is going to fast become a favorite. Why? Well many books I own like to take everyday dishes and make them plant based to appeal to masses which - though I completely get the idea - means that I have a plethora of recipes for vegan mac n cheese, pasta and an insane amount of soups none of which are appealing to me. I want fast , fresh and somewhat lighter; this book was just the fit.Also unlike most books in this category; this goes beyond food recipes; taking the same edible ingredients and creating beauty items such as bath soaks, hair and face masks; and they are all incredibly easy to make.The book begins as many do, with the authors food philosophy, followed by a guide to kitchen and pantry essentials and some basic how to tips. The recipes are divided into different chapters rather than breakfast / lunch / dinner though it does behind with morning ideas under " awaken " followed by nourish , detox, restore , sustain and savor - the latter is dessert type items.Everyone has their own thing they are looking for out of a book and for me I was excited to see all the different bowl recipes from smoothies to power bowls; and I loved the fact that there is a guide to making seasonal bowls with chickpeas , lentils, in season plants and recipes for a variety of dressings! So simple and quick.The book calls for many easily found ingredients which I love and things are quick and simple to prepare which is what I need. The same goes for the beauty recipes - the coconut coffee body scrub took seconds to make ( but do beware it's messy when used and clean up on the bathroom takes a tad longer )The super green smoothie is delicious and had a surprising kick due to the ginger and I tried the immune boosting shot which was a variation of one that I normally make albeit with oregano and black pepper ! My kids enjoyed the mint chip shake unaware that it included spinach and avocado. Though I have made simple dishes so far, it's all been easy to do.Finally the pictures - they are beautiful, clean and enough to inspire the most reluctant of cooks. If you have a busy, crazy life - want to eat clean without hours in the kitchen or store -and want to eat fresh and light; then this book fits the bill far more than any other I have read. A new go to!!
The good:I love the idea behind this book. Natural food and natural skincare. A very holistic approach for overall wellness inside and out. I only eat vegan/plant based so I’m always looking for a new cookbook to add to my rotation.The bad:I don’t think the recipes were tested enough for measurement and texture consistency. I have made 2 recipes thus far and followed both to a “tâ€. Neither one came together as instructed. I had to wing it and add a couple tbs of maple syrup to the mango macaroons so they would stick together. Next, I tried the lasagna. It was an extremely arduous recipe (with very $$ ingredients like Brazil nuts). Not worth the time and money to come out looking and tasting like watery soup! I’m not a chef but I can follow a recipe.In general; I find if one or two recipes in a cookbook are great...the rest are great too. Sadly this one is the opposite. I also found it strange that the body & hair “recipes†are mixed in with the food. Wouldn’t it make more sense to put that in a separate chapter?
I have been following Lily Kunin on her blog Clean Food Dirty City for awhile and was SO excited when I heard that she was coming out with a cookbook!!Let me start by saying that cooking is not a passion of mine. I appreciate good food, and the work that goes into it, but I do not like to be the one doing that work.Reading Good Clean Food makes me want do that work! This book is not a certain "diet" but a beautiful cookbook with each recipe highlighting clean eating in its simplicity. Each recipe will help you make healthier food choices and there are some delicious recipes to help get you started if you are new to clean eating.The recipes in Good Clean Food are are not what you will find in a normal plant-based cookbook. There are unique recipes for things like hair and face masks, and what's even better is they are easy!The recipes call for ingredients that are easy to find which is a major plus for me. I don't know how many times I've been excited about a cookbook only to go from recipe to recipe and have no idea what some of the ingredients even are! That is usually the first and last time I pick up that book!I have to say my favorite part of Good Clean Food has to be the pictures. The pictures are absolutely stunning and so motivating! I want to make these recipes!Needless to say, this is my new go-to cookbook! Highly recommend!
Good Clean Food is a cookbook to be savored and treasured. Lily has a food point-of-view that is practical and easy to follow. It's never preachy but instead she helps you to find what works best for you and makes you feel healthy and vibrant. Recipes I've made so far include the delicious lentil tacos, pesto zucchini noodles, and red lentil earth curry - all yummy! I can't wait to try some of the treats. Whether you know a lot or a little about clean eating, this cookbook will bring fresh perspectives and lots of new recipes!
I love the flow and layout of this book. Lily Kunin explains why each food is important and the nutritional benefits of each in a simple and concise way. She then takes you through recipes that are easy to prepare and groups them based on what your health needs are. If you're looking to energize, detox or nourish that day, she has something for you. I use this book every day. I'm giving this book as gifts this year because I think everyone can benefit from this book.
Great for anyone looking to clean up their diet, or for a person with an already clean diet who needs some inspiration. Also good for someone who eats clean but isn't already a pro at bliss balls or smoothie bowls. Delicious recipes, lovely photos. A beautiful cookbook, and worth every penny. Her instagram feed is super too.
Amazing Book! My husband and I went plant based about a week ago and were having a hard time finding good recipes! This book is fun and creative...it makes eating plant based food not become a snooze fest! Lots of color and flavors!
