Danny is one of the definitive photographers to the world of music. Bruce Springsteen’s introduction says it all. If Springsteen feels comfortable to let Danny into his world, time and time again (and Springsteen is a perfectionist) need I say more? Read the book. Look at this body of work. You will be looking into the world of music through a great photographer’s lens.
This book was released on my birthday (September 23rd), and I happened to receive an amazing e-gift card for Amazon from my sister that day. We always say gift cards are meant to buy things you desire but wouldn't normally purchase with your own money. Thing is, I would absolutely purchase this book with my own money. Being a lifelong fan of all things music, I had to have this book as soon as I saw the cover (lead singer of my favorite band). I purchased through Amazon Prime and received it the very next day (good job Amazon - got it a day early). It was larger and heavier than I expected; though, reading the dimension details would have helped keep my expectations based in reality (it's just over 12 inches x just under 11 inches of awesomeness).The really fun part was sitting down with my daughter and flipping through every page, calling out each band or musician. I'm happy to report that we knew who most of the musicians were by sight. If you don't know who is in the shot, there is great index at the back of the book with thumbnails and band/musician names. The book also has a few fold-out pages to extend larger photos.Danny Clinch's pictures are always perfect, whether portraiture or action shots. If you're a music fan, you'll recognize some, or many, of his iconic photographs. The blurs are colorful and the shadows are haunting. Some will probably complain about the photos where the subject's face is unseen, but if you're a fan of art, you'll get the vibe. Great art invokes emotion, and this book won't let you down.While I'm an avid reader, I'm sorry to say I have only glossed over the forward by Bruce Springsteen (also a September 23rd birthday) and the bio on Clinch. I've felt like a kid, just flipping through, looking at all the pictures with my favorite music shuffling in the background.It's also an aching pleasure seeing photos of people who have passed, like Adam Yauch (MCA from the Beastie Boys) and The Ramones. This terrific resume for Clinch has pictures of blues men, rap gods, country crooners and most certainly rock-n-rollers, so you shouldn't be disappointed. Admittedly, there are more pictures alluding to rock-n-roll than other genres, but I think most are fairly represented.It will make a great gift for the music lover in your life.
Absolutely love this book. I found Danny Clinch's work a few years ago from a friend and have been admiring it ever since. I'd also seen this book in person and knew I had to have it. It sat in my Amazon wishlist for way too long haha. The photos are awesome, the book is huge, the printing looks good as well. If you're a portrait photographer and/or a music lover this would make a perfect addition to anyone's personal library.
The book is excellent quality and the images are printed very well. Clinch is an amazing photographer in this genre and very inspirational.
I bought this book for my brother who is a confirmed Rock lover....I looked thru it yesterday and it definitely lives up to all my exceptions. Thanks to Danny Clinch for doing such an unbelievable job.

I got this as a gift for my 25 year-old nephew. He loved it. Was skimming the pages as soon as he opened it. He said "Gives me something to look at with my friends as we are sitting around listening to vinyl". In other words, he loved it. Great for music enthusiasts of all ages, fabulous shots of wide range of artists.
Powerful photographs of some of the most beloved musical talents in rock history. Clinch has a style all his own, as recognizable to the eye as are the melodies of those artists he has immortalized in these images.
