I used these copy pages as fun supplementary practice sheets for my homeschool group, after I was volunteered to teach 15 students how to write in cursive. This was my first time teaching cursive writing to a group, and we had one student in 4th grade, 3 in 6th grade, 5 high schoolers, and a few that have some learning challenges.After the children learn how to form their letters, they have fun learning new riddles while practicing their penmanship.The front half of the book has the student trace over the riddle first, and then copy it on wider lines at the bottom of the page, so beginners can practice their letter formation.The second section of the book has the same riddles, but there are 2 jokes per page. The lines are narrow, so the student can practice writing in a more practical size.After the students show mastery of their cursive writing, I issue them their "cursive license," which is a picture ID. They love this incentive. If their penmanship gets too sloppy, they are issued a "speeding ticket," and have to re-write their assignment or go back for more practice work.Cursive is NOT dead. We have seen an improvement in the student's writing skills, and the process of learning cursive creates new connections as their mind is still developing. ALSO: You can't write your signature, unless you know cursive!We used a marvelous system from Cursive Logic, that uses 4 lessons to learn all lower case letters, based on how they are formed - I HIGHLY recommend Cursive Logic!! After these first four lessons were complete, the students practiced their signature. My son loves silly little jokes and hates writing. I bought this so he could keep up cursive over the summer and maybe it would be less painful if he was reading and writing jokes. It's going over well.
9 year old son with painful fingers loves this! Not too much writing that it hurts, but enough that he is enjoying cursive and progresses with every page. Perfect spacing! Exactly right for 3rd grade and up ;) Advanced younger kids will also enjoy this. We have him doing doing 2 facing pages a day and that's just right. Highly, highly recommend this.
This is a great cursive workbook if your child needs some extra help practicing their cursive writing skills. It helps my daughter's letter formations by following the "hollowed out" words before trying it out on her own. I've never seen this technique before, but it really works to give extra practice to the student who hasn't quite got all the letter formations mastered. It's great, fun practice that my daughter enjoys.
Got this for my daughter for xmas. Our school district doesn't teach cursive anymore and it really bothers me. They actually don't even teach correct penmanship so kids don't know how to properly form a letter... Grrr. My 10 yr old wants to learn cursive on her own. This appears to be pretty user friendly. Got her a beginners cursive book as well. Thought the jokes and riddles would keep her engaged and stick with writing in the book since she loves riddles
not only does this teach cursive well and you get good practice but it's super engaging for a child because they are copying jokes!!! which gets them to read, practice cursive and work ahead!
My 3rd grade son loves the jokes in this book, which makes practicing handwriting fun! The book is sturdy for a paperback, with nice thick paper that holds up to erasures. This would also be a good choice for homeschoolers.
